Well, it started on the elementary school playground, of course, during track and field day. But when Walberg stepped foot on the meter track that graced the Swisher Field complex, he knew he was home. So the thought — much less images — of the facility being torn up to make room for more softball fields strikes deep in the heart of the former Aberdeen Central and Northern State runner. It has heard the yelling of fans and the hollering of coaching greats from the area.
The old Swisher Field track was the epicenter of track and field in Northeast South Dakota, hosting everything from routine practices to Northern Sun conference multi-events and meets to the vaunted 4-Star high school track meet each spring.
