If your student is having difficulty with a question, encourage the student to choose the answer they think is best and click next to move on to the next question. We ask that you avoid helping your child answer test questions.

Star Early Literacy tests are used for students in grades K-1 beginning readers who do not yet read independently or need early literacy skills assessed. There are 27 questions and it generally takes fewer than 15 minutes for each student to complete the test.

Watch or help your child practice logging in to STAR. Get organized: Find a quiet space for your child to take the test. Make sure the device is working properly. Have paper and pencils ready. Motivate your child: Explain how doing their best will help their teacher know how to teach them better.

Support, but do not help: Encourage your child to stay focused and try their best. Let your child answer the questions on their own. For example, a high-achieving second grader grows at a different rate than a high-achieving eighth grader.
