How is the grudge scary

She loved her son but often could not find him worth attention. Samara was the most glaring example. She was aware of her penchant and prowess for pain, though she could not control it. This meant nothing to her adoptive parents. As hard as they tried, they hated their child and threw her down a well. Unlike most stories surrounding hauntings, these ghosts had solid form. The rage and pain that created the curse were so visceral that it cemented their spirits on the physical plane.

The ghosts contorted and squeezed into horrifying shapes and nothing could dissuade them. Even possession was not off the table. These ghosts could do everything and more. Rachel was committed to the fact that she was going to be killed by the videotape. She only discovered what that meant when she went back to her apartment. Samara wanted her word to be spread.

Rachel had made a copy of the tape and shown it to someone else. Noah reaped the consequences while Rachel could go on. The survival of her child was paramount. The only way to save Aiden was to have him copy the tape and show it to someone else. There is no estimate on what his therapy bills will cost him in the future.

The curse of the grudge is so powerful, that there is never a resolution. Through many American made horror films , the characters eventually win the day. Even if there are sequels, most horror films end with catharsis. The Grudge did not do this. There was never a sense of safety. If you interact with the grudge for even a moment, you were marked forever. I never found it scary, but other people are horrified of it.

There are some intense scenes such as the bed scene of the crawling scene, but overall nothing bad. The movie itself is alright, it is very mediocre but the sequels get better, other than the remake that movie kinda sucks. Overall, I think a 12 year old could handle this movie. Helped me decide. Had useful details. Read my mind. Parent of a 8, 13, and year-old Written by Fernando V. April 23, The film lacks in scares and suspense. The plot is also very confusing, so is the timeline.

Excellent Japanese-American ghost story captures the spirit of the original, but has some gruesome imagery. While it surely had its update for Western audiences, mostly due to American actors portraying the main characters, it stays true to its japanese origins, perfectly capturing the Asian atmosphere and appeal of its Tokyo setting.

You have to give credit to the director for perfectly merging what makes Eastern horror special and what Western audiences view as exciting. In many ways, this is even better than the original movie this was inspired by.

The atmosphere is a whole lot darker, the imagery more terrifying and grotesque, but most of all, the interwoven storylines are easier to follow. It features all of the best scenes from the original, but adds several new ones, all of which are presented in a pleasantly disturbing, creepy fashion. This is chilling thrill ride including two of Asia's best known horror icons, Kayako and Toshio. Shimizu made the best movie he could out of the American screenplay, but not without incorporatinh all the Japanese charms of the original.

This scene is foreshadowed much earlier as the bloody missing jaw is found in the cellar. Kayako, a female ghost who frequently makes gruesome rattling noises, is sometimes seen crawling on the floor, her bloody body twitching in impossible ways. A man jumps to his death in the opening scene, we see his body lying on the ground in a puddle of blood. A bloody corpse is found. Several people are killed off-screen by the ghosts. The graphic nature of this scenes, as well as the intense and frightning atmosphere and constant feeling of threat in the air, make this suitable for mature teens and up.

But then again, horror, like humour, is a terribly subjective thing. Adult Written by Gabriel Mohler October 31, Boring and stupid. I can't believe everyone likes this movie so much.

There are very few scary scenes in it. It's too gloomy and slow. Personally, I found it to be an irritating waste of time. Adult Written by jkauto March 1, Nice japanese horro adaptation Although the film has some cliches that are prevalent many j-horror remakes- the film stands its ground as a solid and fresh horror movie.

It mainly gets its scare from a tense atmosphere but can't help refraining from the occasional jump scare. The storyline is somewhat more of a mystery with strong horror elements- and as far as the content for kids goes, its find for any mature teen. Pretty much bloodless with just some disturbing imagery. Recommended for any horror buff.

While you might be getting the impression that The Grudge is universally disliked, there were some critics that actually enjoyed the movie for what it is.

If the angry, vengeful Ju-On ghosts must endure, they might as well be deployed by someone who knows how to make their attacks bruising. While there may be a question about whether this franchise needs to continue, unlike many of his colleagues, Noel found The Grudge to actually be scary and he appreciated how writer-director Nicolas Pesce handled the property to deliver that.

He was certainly in the minority though, because other critics, even those that appreciated the cast and craft of The Grudge , felt this reboot was ultimately unjustified. The Wrap 's Todd Gilchrist said:. The Grudge is basically opening unopposed this weekend as the only wide new release, so maybe audiences will check it out and feel differently.
